A group for dog owners in Parsons, Kansas and the surrounding communities.

Big and small dogs welcome- all breeds and mixes. Long term goals for our group include annual Parsons, Kansas dog events, dog play groups in Parsons and other local areas, training with free or low-cost classes, and lobbying for a fenced off-leash park. If activities like these are something you're interested in- join us! We plan to start weekly informal obedience classes in Parsons, KS in May of 05.

Email volume on our list is low. There is no advertising. You will receive messages only if there is an upcoming dog event in Parsons or if a local dog owner has questions about ownership, health, training, etc.

Mission Statement:

The Parsons Kansas Dog Owners Association exists to promote responsible, caring dog ownership and better behaved dogs in Parsons, KS through education, training, recreation, and enjoyment. The association also aims to advocate and lobby on behalf of dogs and dog owners in our region.

Our Goals for 2005:

  1. Ongoing- Develop a network of local dog owners in Parsons by using a Yahoo.com email list.
  2. Spring - organize weekly group dog-walk at Forest Park in Parsons, Kansas. Establish community and socialize our dogs on-leash
  3. Early Summer - based on dog-walk participation, establish dog play-groups (separated by size).
  4. Summer - If enough interest, offer free or low-cost basic obedience classes at a public park in Parsons.
  5. Winter - use winter months to organize and brainstorm future plans. Lobby the city of Parsons to designate temporary off leash area. (such as an off-season baseball diamond-- contingent upon all dog waste being removed by owners)

Long Term Goals:

  • Offer advanced obedience and agility classes in Parsonslocally as soon as there is interest.
  • Lobby the city of Parsons for a designated off leash area or dog park.
  • Incorporate as a non-profit group, and serve as a unifying group to help coordinate volunteers and raise money for Parsons, Kansas animal shelters.

 

How You Can Participate:

Join-

Receive notices about group activities and join local discussion through the Parsons Kansas Dog Owners Email List. The list is low volume (currently 2-3 emails a month, maximum) and has a zero-tolerance spam policy. When you join, feel free to introduce you and/or your dog(s).

Donate-

Donations to Parsons Kansas Dog Owners are currently used primarily for printing costs for fliers. Whenever possible, funds are saved for future events and costs. Your donation is not tax deductible but donations as small as $1 are helpful. Your payment will go to BigDogBoutique.com's paypal account (a locally based pet supply company) but will be immediately moved to a separate bank account.
